波斯湾地图以位于阿曼湾和波斯湾之间霍尔木兹海峡为主。
它是波斯湾入大洋的唯一海上航道，也是世界上最具战略意义的咽喉要道之一。
海峡北岸是伊朗，南岸是阿联酋和阿曼，使得霍尔木兹海峡成为近年来世界上最危险的热点地区之一。
1988年的螳螂行动中美国海军在这里击沉了几艘伊朗海军舰艇。
